A Life of Service, A Moment of Honor

Last week, the Touchdown Club of Houston hosted a luncheon to honor several remarkable individuals connected to Texas Southern University (TSU) and Prairie View A&M University (PV). Among those recognized was someone very dear to our church family, Yvette Wilson Scales.
When I first heard the news, my heart was full of joy. Mrs. Scales has always been more than just a familiar face in our congregation. She is a spiritual mentor, a woman of wisdom, (and the grandmother of one of my dearest friends.) Her presence carries a warmth and strength that inspires those around her, whether she’s offering encouragement, sharing her testimony, or quietly living out her faith through service.
To know that her impact extends beyond our church walls into the wider Houston community is no surprise to anyone who has been blessed by her life. Still, it is beautiful to see her honored publicly for the very qualities we admire in her every day: perseverance, leadership, and a heart for others.

The recognition she received at the Touchdown Club luncheon is a reminder of how important it is to celebrate the people who sow seeds of love and guidance into our lives. Mrs. Scales’ example reminds us that true influence is not measured by titles or positions, but by the lives touched and the legacies built.
Congratulations, Mrs. Scales. We are grateful for you, we are proud of you, and we celebrate this honor alongside you.
